Pick it up for Vic

Vic was known around Busselton as the man on the bike who would stop to pick up rubbish.

If you see some rubbish, pick it up and dispose of it the right way.

Safety first

Leave needles and syringes where they are, and report them to your local council.

Don’t pick up broken glass with bare hands, and keep away from roads, cliff edges and water.

Wear gloves if you can, and wash your hands afterwards.

Quiet acts count. Sharing is optional: #pickitupforvic.

Know him

The man on the bike

He was known around Busselton as the man on the bike who would stop to pick up rubbish, recycling cans and bottles, and occasionally he’d have to go back with his car because the rubbish was just too big.

His household kitchen bin was tiny. He recycled everything he could, and never bought anything he didn’t truly want or need.

He was a regular volunteer at Busselton sporting events - checking people in for their race, handing out drinks, and of course picking up rubbish.

Ways you can do this

As a family we’d like to honour him and I hope you will too.

  • Walk or ride somewhere instead of drive.
  • Take the stairs 2 at a time.
  • Bring your recycling bags when you shop.
  • Have a short shower.
  • Become an organ donor.
  • Turn the lights off if you don’t really need them.
  • Plant a seed to grow some vegetables.
  • Volunteer for an hour.
  • And if you see some rubbish, pick it up and dispose of it the right way.
